Student Experience

CIT Experience

"The Center for Information Technology serves as a home for students interested in learning the fundamentals of technology. Students receive a unique, technology-based education that prepares them well for the future whether or not they decide to pursue a career in the field of computer science. In this section, I want to give you the opportunity to meet some of the students in the Center so that you can learn more about the CIT experience. Click through the tabs above to learn more."

Computer Science Honor Society (CSHS)

"My experience as a member and President of CSHS has been positive. The organization has provided me with many learning opportunities to expand my knowledge of computer science. More importantly I have learned what it means to use computer science to give back. My favorite experience was the Hour of Code event where my officers and I introduced computer science to middle school students in the local community."

Computer Club

"Computer Club is a great place for students to learn from other students. At Computer Club, any student from Deep Run can join and explore diverse facets of computer science, ranging from game design to quantum computing to hardware to artificial intelligence, all while making friends with similar technology interests. As the President of Computer Club for 2 years, I've witnessed firsthand how the unique student-led structure of this club gives students an opportunity to learn about things they might not get a chance to in school. The snacks are a great part of the club as well!"

Girls of CIT

"Being in the Girls of CIT since freshman year, I was able to gain a meaningful experience and a supportive community that encourages each other in all aspects. Whether it's engaging in meaningful discussions, participating in events, or collaborating on projects, Girls of CIT fosters an environment where we can thrive and grow together. Throughout high school, I could make friends from different grade levels in the CIT. Overall, Girls of CIT allowed me to socialize with other girls with similar interests and to encourage one another."

CIT Student and President of Girls of CIT, Grace Lee

CIT Council

"I have been on the CIT Council for three years. I was the Secretary my sophomore and Junior years and president my senior year. I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone in the CIT no matter the grade and a big reason I was able to do this was the council. Since we organize so many center events, I get to interact with basically the whole center each time. I have also really enjoyed being apart of the council because it allows me to bring some of my ideas for the center to life and I am able to rely on the whole council to help me. I would say that the CIT council has a big hand in helping the center run and each person on the council is a leader in the center which makes it more memorable!"

Other Extracurriculars

"There are many amazing opportunities within the Center at Deep Run, so there are also many places to get involved outside of the Center. I am personally in the Strings and Dance Team, and these two programs have helped me become acclimated to the Deep Run Community. Dance team has allowed me to meet new people from all over the school and get involved in school events, such as pep rallies and football and basketball games."

CIT Student, Riley B.

"I am currently a senior in the Center for Information Technology. Although the center is a major time commitment, students will find plenty of opportunities and time to participate in other Deep Run extracurricular activities. Personally, I have held leadership positions in Key Club and Student Council all four years. In addition, I have been the captain of competition and sideline cheer teams. Center students will be able to participate in any extracurricular activity they desire to explore interests outside of the center."

CIT Student, Brianna M.

"I participate in a lot of extracurricular activities, such as the volleyball team; I'm also a Cadet in the Air Force JROTC program, I'm part of the CyberPatriot and Color Guard clubs, and I also serve as the secretary of the Girls of CIT club. All of these activities have positively impacted me and students should engage them as well."

CIT Student and Secretary of Girls of CIT, Annika G.

"Apart from my role in the CIT Council, I participate in CyberPatriot, which is a cybersecurity competition, play the violin, and play tennis for the Deep Run tennis team. All of these extracurriculars are great because they really have helped me grow as a person. "

CIT Student and Software Advisor for CIT Council, Vyas N.
